Mediatoon Licensing acquired the merchandising rights (excluding Asia) of Monsters: 103 Mercies Dragon Damnation, the first animated adaptation of the famous one shot by Eiichiro Oda, ONE PIECE’s author.
What is Monsters?
Monsters is a one shot written by ONE PIECE’s author, Eiichiro Oda when he was only 19. First published in the Shonen Jump Autumn Special in 1994, it is republished in 1998 in the Wanted! collection of short stories. The anime transports us in the epic story of samurai Ryuma’s. After a long period of wandering, Ryuma finally reaches a town where Flare, a young woman, saves him from starvation. However, the samurai finds himself involved in a dragon attack on the town…
Ryuma is a character that One Piece’s fans may recognize since he appears in the Thriller Bark’s arc.
The first anime adaptation
The adaptation of Monsters: 103 Mercies Dragon Damnation consists of a 25-minute episode produced by the prestigious E&H Production studio and directed by Sunghoo Park to whom we owe the first season and the 0 film of Jujutsu Kaisen as well as the adaptation of The God of High School. Takashi Kojima is behind the character design. All of which allowing a unique artistic and narrative experience.
